Google has begun beta testing a new metric to help Android app developers identify apps causing excessive battery drain. A new Android Vitals metric to pinpoint excessive wake locks, a key factor behind in idle battery drain. The company suggests these metrics could eventually highlight optimised apps on the Google Play store.
